About the generation

What makes the Citroen C2 special

Citroen C2 tune: VTR and VTS share one engine family

VTR and VTS are trim names; the GAN module is chosen by the engine behind the badge, whether that is a VTR, a VTS or one of the diesels. Citroen never sold the C2 through U.S. dealers, so any C2 here is a European-market car with badges such as VTR and VTS. Both the VTR and the VTS use a 1.6 16V from the TU5 family, with the codes TU5JP4 and TU5JP4S. The VTS, built from December 2004 to November 2009, is the stronger of the two. The VTR ran from September 2003 to June 2006.

Both take the GAN GA+, and so do the small 1.1 and 1.4 gas engines. The two diesels, the 1.4 HDi 68 and the 1.6 HDi 110 FAP, are turbocharged and take the GAN GT. Only the VTS got the 1.6 HDi 110 FAP, starting in September 2006.

C2 VTS tune: what does the GAN GA+ add to the VTS and VTR?

With the GAN GA+, the VTS reaches 140 hp and 160 Nm and the VTR 123 hp and 165 Nm. Those are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno result for your car. On these gas engines, GAN rates it at up to 12% more power.

Which GAN module fits a Citroen C2 1.4 HDi?

The 1.4 HDi 68 takes the GAN GT, which GAN rates at up to 30% more power on turbo engines. The catalog lists 88 hp and 208 Nm for it, up from 160 Nm on cars built from 2008; earlier 1.4 HDi cars start at 150 Nm. The module doesn’t reprogram the transmission, so the SensoDrive transmission stays as it is.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
