Fiat performance chip: more power, no ECU flash

The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

FAQ

Fiat tuning FAQ

Fiat 500 Abarth tune or a 1.3 Multijet: what does the GAN GT add?

The 500L's 1.4 MultiAir Turbo is rated at 160 hp, and as a turbo gasoline engine it takes the GAN GT. Take the European 500 with the 95 hp 1.3 Multijet: 95 hp and 200 Nm become 124 hp and 260 Nm with the GAN GT, per the catalog. The 1.6 and 2.0 Multijet have their own figures, so go by your car's stock output. Those are the catalog gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Can the 0.9 TwinAir Turbo take a module?

Yes. The TwinAir is a 0.9-liter two-cylinder turbo, offered at 85 and 105 hp in the 500 and 85 hp in the Panda. The catalog matches the 105 hp TwinAir Turbo in the 500 with the GAN GT.

Do the 1.2 and 1.4 FIRE engines of the Panda and 500 have a module?

Panda III: 1.2 8V FIRE at 69 hp. The 500: the same 1.2 at 69 hp, or a 1.4 16V at 101 hp. For these naturally aspirated gasoline engines the catalog lists the GAN GA+, with up to 12% more power.

Plug-in module or flash tune on a Fiat Multijet?

A flash tune rewrites the factory software. The GAN module works differently: it sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched, and the engine keeps its factory protections. Take the module off and no traces remain, because nothing was ever written to the ECU. The ECU software is never changed, so your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can come off at any time.

Does the GAN module affect my Fiat factory warranty?

No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?

A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.

About Fiat engines

Fiat engines: what to know before you tune

Fiat 500 tune: the engine family decides the module

For a Fiat 500 tune, look at the engine family before the model. The 500 came with a 1.2 at 69 hp and a 0.9 TwinAir Turbo at 85 or 105 hp, and each takes a different module. One body, two modules: the 1.2 takes the GAN GA+, and the two-cylinder TwinAir Turbo takes the GAN GT. Fiat sold the 500, 500L, 500X and 124 Spider in the U.S., and the gasoline versions are now discontinued there. The U.S. 500 Abarth and 124 Spider Abarth share the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo: 160 hp (157 hp with the automatic) in the 500 Abarth and 164 hp in the Spider Abarth; the catalog rows are metric, so the Spider Abarth is the 124 Spider 1.4T 166 row, and for the 500 Abarth the nearest row is the 158, so confirm it before you order.

The first common-rail diesels were Fiat's JTD, the next generation was Multijet, and then came Multijet II, 3 and 4. The gasoline side splits into FIRE (1.2 and 1.4), T-Jet (turbo 1.4), MultiAir (1.4) and TwinAir (0.9), plus FireFly and GSE (1.0, 1.3 and 1.5) since 2018. Take the Panda III: a 1.2 8V FIRE at 69 hp, the 0.9 TwinAir Turbo at 85 hp from 2011 to 2020, and the 1.3 Multijet at 75 hp until 2015. A Multijet, T-Jet or TwinAir Turbo engine calls for the GAN GT, with up to 30% more power.

Why the Ducato numbers are rounded

The Ducato, a twin of the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper, is Europe's main motorhome base. Its diesels run from the Multijet 2.0, 2.3 and 3.0 (2006 to 2021) to the 2.2 Multijet3 and 4 since 2021. The name rounds the output: a 150 Multijet really makes 148 hp, a 160 makes 157 to 159 hp, and a 180 makes 177 hp. Several makers built these engines: PSA the 2.0 JTD at 84 hp and the 2.2 100 Multijet, Iveco and FPT the 2.3, 2.8 and 3.0, and Fiat the 2.0 115 Multijet. So a Ducato Multijet tuner starts with your van's real output, since the catalog lists 148 hp and 150 hp as separate versions.

Models and the engine families behind them

The Punto (Typ 199) ran from 2005 to 2018 as the Grande Punto, the Punto Evo and the Punto. Gasoline engines went from the 1.2 8V to the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo, diesels from the 1.3 Multijet to the 1.9 JTD. The Tipo (Typ 356) launched in 2015 with a 1.4 T-Jet or a 1.6 E-torQ, and the 1.0 FireFly Turbo came with the 2020 and 2021 facelift. Multijet diesels power both Doblò generations, topped on the second by the 2.0 Multijet at 135 hp.

The 500X was built from 2014 to 2024, and until August 2018 it offered a 1.4 MultiAir at 140 hp and a 2.0 Multijet at 140 hp. The 500L, a compact minivan built from 2012 to 2022, had the 0.9 TwinAir Turbo at 105 hp among its gasoline engines. Under the skin, the Fullback pickup was a Mitsubishi L200 and the Freemont was a Dodge Journey.
