Fiat Ducato tune: engines and generations
Fiat Ducato tune: a motorhome base with many Multijets
The Fiat Ducato is mostly a motorhome story: it is the base for between two thirds and about 70% of the motorhomes in Europe. Fiat never sold the Ducato under that name in the U.S.; its North American relative is the Ram ProMaster, sold in 1500, 2500 and 3500 series. The ProMaster’s main gas engine is the naturally aspirated 3.6 Pentastar V6, 280 hp through 2022 and 276 hp from 2023, which has no row in this catalog, because the Ducato rows are turbo diesels. The catalog’s Ducato isn’t one generation. It mixes the Typ 230, the Typ 244 and the Typ 250.
Don’t read the number in the name as hp: the 150 Multijet makes 148 hp, and the 160 Multijet makes 157 to 159 hp. From 2010 to 2014 the Typ 250 offered two different diesels at the same 130 and 150 hp ratings: the 2.3 Multijet from Sofim and Iveco, and the 2.2 HDi from Ford and PSA. They differ in displacement, 2,287 cc against 2,198 cc, and in engine code, so check both.
Newer Ducato engines and what to call them
The Typ 250 launched in June 2006 and got facelifts in 2011, May 2014, fall 2016, 2020 and 2021. The 2011 facelift brought the 115 Multijet, a new 2.0 from Fiat at 115 hp. With the 2019 and 2020 facelift came the 2.3 Multijet2 in 120, 140, 160 and 180 hp, using SCR and AdBlue. From 2021 the 2.2 Multijet3 at 140 and 160 hp replaces it. It is a different engine, so nothing from the 2.3 carries over.
The fall 2023 facelift brought the Multijet4 at 120, 140 and 180 hp. The electric e-Ducato is its own line. Newer engines also go by Multijet3 or Multijet4, or by names like 2.2 Multijet and 140 Multijet3, so search and match by these names.

Ducato Multijet tune: is your engine the 2.3 or the 2.2?
Check the displacement and the engine code. The 2.3 is 2,287 cc and comes from Sofim and Iveco; the 2.2 HDi is 2,198 cc and comes from Ford and PSA. Both were sold at the same 130 and 150 hp ratings, but they are different engines with separate rows.
What does the GAN GT add to a 150 Multijet?
The 150 Multijet starts at 148 hp and 350 Nm, and the catalog shows 174 hp and 445 Nm with the GAN GT. The gain is figured from the true stock output, not from the 150 in the name. Those are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno result for your van.
Ducato software update or plug-in performance chip: what is the difference?
A software update on a Ducato usually means changing the factory software. A flash tuner rewrites that software. The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals instead. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they are, and the engine’s factory protections stay active. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
