Kia computer tuning: plug-in module or flash tune?
A flash tune rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU), and that is what computer tuning usually means. The GAN module works between the engine sensors and the ECU, which leaves the factory software, checksums and flash counter alone. The ECU software is never changed, so your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can come off at any time.
What do the Sportage and Ceed diesels gain with the GAN GT?
On the Sportage IV 2.0 CRDi, 185 hp and 400 Nm become 237 hp and 505 Nm with the GAN GT. The Sportage IV 1.6 CRDi at 136 hp gains 40 hp and 100 Nm, and the Sportage V at 115 hp gains 33 hp and 81 Nm. Those are catalog gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Kia Carens: which versions does the GAN GT cover?
Three versions of the Carens 1.7 CRDi are listed: 115 hp (116 hp in the catalog) adds 35 hp and 77 Nm, 136 hp adds 40 hp and 90 Nm, and 141 hp adds 41 hp and 90 Nm. All three take the GAN GT.
Kia Stinger tune: what do the turbo gasoline Kias gain?
Ceed GT at 204 hp: +49 hp and +116 Nm (+86 lb-ft) in the second generation, +43 hp and +56 Nm (+41 lb-ft) in the third. Stinger: the 247 hp 2.0 T-GDI adds 42 hp and 60 Nm, and the 370 hp 3.3 T-GDI adds 63 hp and 87 Nm.
Does the GAN module affect my Kia factory warranty?
No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?
A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Kia engines: what to know before you tune
Kia tune: the same engines as Hyundai
Kia has sold cars in the U.S. since the mid-1990s, and today's range includes the Sportage, Sorento, Telluride, Seltos and Niro. Names like Cee'd and Carens aren't U.S. badges. Kia and Hyundai share their engines, which makes a Kia tune easier to follow. Smartstream has been the common name for both brands' new engines since 2018, with a letter for the fuel and a number for the displacement.
The 2.2 CRDi belongs to the family Hyundai fits to the Santa Fe: 197 hp in the Sorento II and 200 hp in the Sorento III. For the Sorento IV you get the 2.2 CRDi at 202 hp, a 1.6 T-GDI hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. The first Sorento had the 2.5 CRDi at 140 hp, then 170 hp after the September 2006 update. Sorento II debuted in 2009; its 2.4 GDI at 192 hp followed with the 2012 update.
Sportage, Ceed, Carens and Stinger engines
The current U.S. Sportage 2.5 is a naturally aspirated gas engine rated at 187 hp, so it takes the GAN GA+; in the table it is the Sportage V 2.5 GDI row, listed at 190. Sportage diesels in the catalog: the 1.7 CRDi at 115 or 141 hp, the 2.0 CRDi at 136 or 185 hp, and from 2018 the 1.6 CRDi at 115 to 136 hp. The 136 hp 1.6 CRDi also comes as a 48V mild hybrid, EcoDynamics+, and the turbodiesel underneath doesn't change. The Sportage V of 2021 offers the 1.6 T-GDI at 150 or 180 hp, plus hybrids at 230 and 265 hp.
The Ceed was written cee'd until 2018. Its engines are the 1.0 T-GDI, the 1.4 T-GDI and, in the GT, the 1.6 T-GDI at 204 hp. The Carens compact minivan has the 1.7 CRDi at 115, 136 and 141 hp. The Carens UN ran from 2006 to 2013, and the Carens RP from then until 2019. Stinger engines: the 2.0 T-GDI at 245 hp (247 hp in the catalog) and the 3.3 T-GDI V6 at 370 hp. The Stinger's 2.2 CRDi at 200 hp was sold until 2020.

Kia takes two modules. CRDi diesels and T-GDI gasoline engines go with the GAN GT (up to 30% more power), while naturally aspirated MPI and GDI engines go with the GAN GA+ (up to 12%). Check the letters: GDI without a T has no turbo, and MPI is naturally aspirated. That puts the Sorento II 2.4 GDI at 192 hp on the GAN GA+.
The U.S. K4's 2.0 is a naturally aspirated gas engine rated at 147 hp, so it takes the GAN GA+ too. On the Sportage 1.6 CRDi mild hybrid you still want the GAN GT, because the turbodiesel stays under the mild hybrid system. For any Kia, engine name and output count, not the badge on the trunk.
