What makes the Kia Niro special
Kia Niro Hybrid tune: the gas engine or the whole system?
A Niro tune raises two questions: can a hybrid be tuned at all, and which power figure does the performance chip change? Every Niro has an electric motor, and the system output is 141 hp and 265 Nm. The catalog's 105 hp and 147 Nm are the 1.6 GDi gas engine alone, one part of that system. The Niro has been sold in the U.S. since the 2017 model year as the Niro Hybrid, with the Niro Plug-In Hybrid added for 2018.
The Plug-In Hybrid is a separate powertrain, so the catalog's hybrid row doesn't automatically cover it. Both generations, the first from 2016 to 2022 and the current one from 2022, pair this 1.6 GDi with an electric motor. The electric motor adds 44 hp, and the first generation sends power through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Kia Niro Hybrid tune: which power figure does the GAN GA+ change?
Only the gas engine: the catalog's 105 hp and 147 Nm become 118 hp and 165 Nm with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. Those are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. What that means for the 141 hp system output is not stated. The U.S. Niro's 1.6-liter engine is naturally aspirated, which is why it takes the GAN GA+ and not a turbo module.
Do the first and second Niro share the same figures?
Yes. Both generations use the 1.6 GDi gas engine at 105 hp, and those are the hybrid's figures. The second 1.6H version in the catalog, 139 hp and 170 Nm, mixes the system output with the electric motor's torque, so it is not an engine figure.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
