Performance Chip Tuning Mercedes-Benz
Up to 30% more power for your Mercedes-Benz
The Mercedes-Benz catalog lists 696 engines (models: 33, generations: 73). For 72% of the engines, there are the GAN GT (up to 30% more power) and GAN GTL (up to 25%) tuning modules; for the rest, the GAN GA and GAN GA+ (up to 12%). Each engine’s figures are on its own page.
Mercedes-Benz performance chip: more power, no ECU flash
The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

Mercedes-Benz tuning FAQ
What should I check on an OM 651 diesel before fitting a Mercedes performance chip?
Before anything else, check the Delphi piezo injectors on the C 220 CDI, C 250 CDI, E 220 CDI and E 250 CDI. Those built from 2009 to 2011 could fail at around 50 thousand km and drop the engine into limp mode. Separately, there was a recall on the chain tensioner in 2014. A performance chip doesn't repair or replace mechanical parts such as injectors or a timing chain, so have a shop check both first.
M271 Kompressor or M271 CGI: what is the difference?
The M271 Kompressor is the mechanically supercharged version, built from 2002 to 2011. The M271 EVO with CGI, introduced in 2009, adds a turbocharger and direct injection. The catalog pairs Kompressor engines with the GAN GA+ and CGI engines with the GAN GT, so choose by engine and year. A C 200 Kompressor goes from 184 hp and 250 Nm to 206 hp and 280 Nm. A C 200 CGI goes from 184 hp and 270 Nm to 236 hp and 349 Nm.
Why does a Mercedes C 300 carry a 2.0 while the old C 250 CGI is a 1.8?
Since the W203 and W204 the number shows a power class. That is why the W204 C 250 CGI has a 1.8-liter engine, the W205 C 300 a 2.0-liter, and the C 250 CDI diesel yet another displacement. The current U.S. C 300 is still a 2.0-liter turbo four, rated at 255 hp. That's why you choose by engine code and year in the catalog, not by the number alone.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tune for a Mercedes: what stays untouched?
A flash tune rewrites the factory software inside the ECU. A plug-in performance chip works differently. The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your factory warranty is preserved. The ECU software never changes, and you can remove the module at any time.
Does the GAN module affect my Mercedes-Benz factory warranty?
No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?
A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Mercedes-Benz engines: what to know before you tune
Mercedes tune: start with your engine code
The catalog lists Mercedes engines from across Europe and not every one was sold here, so match yours by engine code and hp. The first engine to check before you fit a performance chip is the OM 651 diesel in the C 220 CDI, C 250 CDI, E 220 CDI and E 250 CDI. That engine's Delphi piezo injectors are a known weak point. Units made between 2009 and 2011 failed at around 50 thousand km and sent the engine into limp mode.
Next, look at the timing chain and tensioner; a 2014 recall covered cars built between February and November that year. On the gasoline side, the M271 is the one to know: it powers the C 180 and C 200 Kompressor, the E 200 K and the C 200 CGI. The current U.S. C 300 is a 2.0-liter turbo four rated at 255 hp.
What the number on a Mercedes trunk lid means
Starting with the W203 and W204, the number on the trunk lid shows a power class rather than the engine size. A W204 C 250 CGI, for instance, runs a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, the W205 C 300 a 2.0-liter and the C 400 a 3.0-liter; the C 250 CDI diesel has yet another displacement. Quick decoder: Kompressor is a mechanical supercharger, CGI is gasoline direct injection, 4MATIC is all-wheel drive, and BlueEFFICIENCY is the W204's economy package. The M271 Kompressor ran from 2002 to 2011, and the turbocharged, direct-injected M271 EVO with CGI joined it from 2009. In 2012 and 2013 the 1.6 and 2.0-liter M270 and M274 turbo engines arrived in the A, C and E; the SLK got them in 2015.
Among diesels, the OM 651 replaced the OM 611/646 family in 2008, while the V6 OM 642 had arrived in 2005. On diesels, CDI gave way to BlueTEC (SCR with AdBlue) and then to a plain d. A C 220 CDI becomes a C 220 BlueTEC, then a C 220 d. Since 2014, a lowercase letter after the number names the drive. Think d for diesel, e for plug-in hybrid and h for hybrid: the C 350 e and the C 300 h.

Mercedes performance chip: GAN GT or GAN GA+
Each catalog engine is paired with one GAN performance chip. Diesels and turbo engines mostly take the GAN GT, rated up to 30% more power; naturally aspirated gasoline engines take the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%. So start with the engine code: the W204 C 200 CGI, C 250 CGI and C 350 CDI all take the GAN GT. Take the C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY: stock, it makes 204 hp and 310 Nm; with the GAN GT, 261 hp and 397 Nm. Those are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your own car.
Supercharged Kompressor engines, like the C 200 Kompressor, take the GAN GA+. The V6 and V8 gasoline engines go the same way, among them the C 350 and the C 63 AMG. For hybrids like the C 300 h and C 350 e, look up the engine in the catalog before you assume a figure. The 2019 and 2020 E 450 and the SL 450 share a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 rated at 362 hp, which the table lists as the SL 400 at 367 hp; the E 450 has no row of its own yet. The GLE 350 and the AMG GLE 53 are different engines, a 2.0-liter four at 255 hp and a 3.0-liter six at 429 hp, so check which one you drive.
Model names and body codes
The SLK became the SLC in 2016, the ML turned into the GLE in fall 2015, and in September 2012 the A-Class W176 took over from the W169. In the U.S. that reads M-Class to GLE, GLK to GLC and SLK to SLC. In 2009 the E-Class Coupé C207 replaced the CLK W209 coupé, and in 2021 the W206 replaced the C-Class W205.
The C-Class codes run from W202 to W205 and the E-Class codes from W210 to W213. The SLK is R170 to R172, the M-Class W163, W164 and W166, and the A-Class W168, W169, W176 and W177.
Which Mercedes-Benz models are in the catalog
The catalog lists 33 models from Mercedes-Benz. The most engines are listed for the E (102), C (88) and S (55). The biggest gain among the models is on the G: up to +122 hp.
Naturally aspirated Mercedes-Benz engines
For 174 naturally aspirated engines from Mercedes-Benz, there’s the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% better fuel economy in ECO mode. It’s plug-and-play: you can install it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
