Renault performance chip: more power, no ECU flash

The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

FAQ

Renault tuning FAQ

What does the GAN GT do for a Mégane R.S.?

Take the Mégane III 2.0 TCe: stock it makes 250 hp and 340 Nm, and with the GAN GT 317 hp and 433 Nm. The 265 hp 2.0 TCe of the same Mégane III has its own entry, also with the GAN GT. Those are stated gains for the engine type, not what a dyno would show on your own car.

TCe or SCe: which GAN performance chip suits my Renault?

A TCe is a turbo gasoline engine, and most TCe engines take the GAN GT. A few, like the Mégane III 1.2 and 1.4 TCe, take the GAN GA+, so check your exact engine in the catalog. An SCe is naturally aspirated and takes the GAN GA+. A lowercase t in the code, like the one in H5Ht, confirms a turbo.

Do Renault dCi diesels work with the GAN GT?

Yes. The 1.5 dCi K9K, 1.6 dCi R9M and 2.0 dCi M9R are turbodiesels that suit the GAN GT, and each power output has its own catalog entry. On the Mégane IV, for example, the 1.5 dCi comes in 90 and 110 hp versions.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tune for a Renault TCe or dCi?

A flash tune rewrites the factory software. The GAN tuning module doesn't: it works between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. Checksums, flash counter and factory software stay untouched, and the engine keeps its factory protections. Your factory warranty is preserved. The ECU software never changes, and you can remove the module at any time.

Does the GAN module affect my Renault factory warranty?

No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?

A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.

About Renault engines

Renault engines: what to know before you tune

Renault tune: the Mégane R.S. and the turbo code

Renault no longer sells cars in the U.S., so a Renault here is usually a collector car, and newer models are European-market cars. None of the European models in this catalog belong to a current U.S. lineup, so match your engine by code and hp. The best guide to a Renault tune is the Mégane R.S., the hot hatch from Renault Sport. The story begins with the F4Rt, a 2.0 Turbo making 225 to 265 hp in the Mégane II and III.

The Mégane IV R.S. has run the 1.8 TCe (280 to 300 hp) since January 2018, and in 2021 Alpine replaced the Renault Sport name. That 1.8 carries the code M5Pt. Check the end of the engine code for a small t: F4Rt, H5Ht and M5Pt are all turbo versions.

Reading the badge: TCe, SCe and dCi

Start with the badge. The number in a Renault engine name is the power in hp. Spot a TCe and you have a turbo gasoline engine. Examples: 1.2 TCe H5Ft, 1.4 TCe H4Jt, 1.3 TCe H5Ht, 2.0 TCe F4Rt. SCe means naturally aspirated gasoline, like the 1.0 and the 1.6 SCe H4M.

Diesels are dCi: common-rail turbodiesels like the 1.5 K9K, 1.6 R9M and 2.0 M9R. From 2018, Blue dCi adds AdBlue. Every Renault engine code is a family letter plus an index, for example K4M, K7M, F4R, H4M, K9K and H5Ht. Most turbo engines take the GAN GT, rated up to 30% more power, and SCe engines take the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%. In both cases your exact engine in the catalog decides the performance chip.

Renault performance chip: engines shared with Nissan and Mercedes

Some Renault engines wear Nissan badges. The H4M is the Nissan HR16DE, the M4R the MR20DE, and the H5Ft the HR12DDT. The K9K, R9M and M9R diesels also went into the Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke. Mercedes shares too. The 1.3 TCe H5Ht, developed with Daimler, is the Mercedes M282, and the K9K diesel became the OM607 and OM608.

Mégane engines in the catalog

For the Mégane III 2.0 TCe, the GAN GT is the match at 190, 220, 250 and 265 hp. The GAN GT covers the Mégane III dCi diesels too, from the 1.5 (86 hp) to the 2.0 (163 hp). Two more examples: the Mégane IV 1.6 dCi (130 and 165 hp) and the Mégane II 2.0 dCi (150 and 173 hp). Since dCi spans everything from the 1.5 to the 2.3, the engine code is what tells you which version you have.

Which Renault models are in the catalog

The catalog lists 30 models from Renault. The most engines are listed for the Megane (62), Clio (40) and Scenic (39). The biggest gain among the models is on the Megane: up to +71 hp.

Naturally aspirated Renault engines

For 134 naturally aspirated engines from Renault, there’s the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% better fuel economy in ECO mode. It’s plug-and-play: you can install it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
