Mitsubishi performance chip: more power, no ECU flash

The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

FAQ

Mitsubishi tuning FAQ

How much power does a Mitsubishi L200 2.5 DI-D gain from a GAN performance chip?

The L200 is not part of the current U.S. range, but its diesel shows what the GAN GT does. The 2.5 DI-D goes from 136 hp and 314 Nm to 176 hp and 402 Nm with the GAN GT. These are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your own vehicle. The same diesel is also built at 167 and 178 hp, so choose by output.

Which Pajero (Montero) 3.2 DI-D versions work for towing?

On the Pajero 3.2 DI-D, the GAN GT fits the 160, 170, 190 and 200 hp versions. Go by output and year. The diesel was reworked to 200 hp in January 2009, and since September 2015 it makes 190 hp.

Which GAN performance chip fits the Outlander and the ASX diesels?

All of these diesels take the GAN GT: the Outlander 2.2 DI-D, the ASX 1.8 DI-D and the ASX 2.2 DI-D. The earlier Outlander's Volkswagen 2.0 DI-D (140 hp) is a different engine and goes with the GAN GA+. Check it by code.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tune for a DI-D diesel?

A flash tune rewrites the factory software inside the engine control unit (ECU). A plug-in performance chip is a different method: the GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your factory warranty is preserved. The ECU software never changes, and you can remove the module at any time.

Does the GAN module affect my Mitsubishi factory warranty?

No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?

A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.

About Mitsubishi engines

Mitsubishi engines: what to know before you tune

Mitsubishi tune: torque for towing starts with the diesel

Low-rev torque matters most when a Mitsubishi pickup or SUV is hauling a trailer. That is why a Mitsubishi tune in this catalog centers on the DI-D diesels, the engines that take the GAN GT. DI-D stands for Mitsubishi's direct-injection diesel engines. Since the 2000s they have been common-rail turbodiesels, such as the 2.5 DI-D 4D56, the 3.2 DI-D 4M41 and the 2.4 DI-D 4N15.

On the Pajero V60 and V80, the 3.2 DI-D is Mitsubishi's own engine, with outputs from 160 to 200 hp. Between 2004 and 2010, the Lancer, Grandis and Outlander got a bought-in diesel from Volkswagen: the 2.0 DI-D, 140 hp. The Lancer finally got a diesel of Mitsubishi's own in 2010, the 1.8 DI-D with 116 hp. For an L200, Outlander or ASX, look the vehicle up by name.

Which GAN performance chip suits which Mitsubishi

Most DI-D turbodiesels in the catalog take the GAN GT, rated up to 30% more power, while most gasoline engines take the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%. Both L200 diesels take the GAN GT: the 2.5 DI-D (136, 167 and 178 hp) and the 2.4 DI-D (154 and 181 hp). On the Pajero (IV), the 3.2 DI-D gets its own GAN GT figures at 160, 170, 190 and 200 hp. The GAN GT also covers the Outlander 2.2 DI-D and the ASX 1.8 DI-D and 2.2 DI-D. The older Volkswagen 2.0 DI-D in the Outlander and the 3.2 TD in the Pajero (III) go with the GAN GA+. In the U.S., the ASX was sold as the Outlander Sport and the Pajero went by Montero.

The Lancer Evolution, with the 4G63T or 4B11T engine, sits on the Lancer page; read the figure there by engine code. The current U.S. Eclipse Cross has a 1.5-liter turbo rated at 152 hp, and that engine has no row in the catalog yet. The Outlander PHEV combines a gasoline engine, a 2.0 (4B11) at first and later a 2.4 (4B12), with electric motors. Check the model page by engine instead of assuming a figure. The current U.S. Outlander PHEV is rated at 248 hp for the plug-in hybrid, so go by the engine on the model page, not the headline number.

Engine codes, and why this catalog is European

A Mitsubishi engine code has four characters, and the first digit is the cylinder count. A trailing T, as in 4G63T or 4B11T, means turbo. In a name like 2.4 or 2.5 DI-D, the number is the displacement in liters and says nothing about output.

MIVEC is variable valve timing, and on its own it doesn't tell you whether the engine has a turbo. Mitsubishi announced in July 2020 that it was leaving Europe, then confirmed in early 2021 that the brand would stay in some countries, including Germany and Austria. Renault has supplied the Colt and the ASX since 2023, both built on the Clio and Captur platforms, so look them up by engine.

Which Mitsubishi models are in the catalog

The catalog lists 36 models from Mitsubishi. The most engines are listed for the Pajero (30), Outlander (29) and Lancer (22). The biggest gain among the models is on the Pajero: up to +56 hp.

Naturally aspirated Mitsubishi engines

For 188 naturally aspirated engines from Mitsubishi, there’s the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% better fuel economy in ECO mode. It’s plug-and-play: you can install it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
