What makes the Mitsubishi Space Star special
Mitsubishi Space Star tune: two cars under one name, and the U.S. Mirage
Mitsubishi never sold the Space Star under that name in the U.S.; the hatchback came here as the Mirage. Space Star is really two cars. The first was a compact MPV on the Carisma platform, built by NedCar in the Netherlands from 1998 to 2005. The second is a five-door hatchback built in Thailand and sold from 2013 to 2025. Your engine tells you which car you have, and the performance chip follows the engine.
A Space Star 1.2 is the hatchback, and it has naturally aspirated three-cylinder gas engines only. Options: a 1.0 (71 hp, 88 Nm), a 1.2 (80 hp, 106 Nm) and, since September 2020, a 1.2 (71 hp, 102 Nm). The U.S. Mirage 1.2 is rated at 74 hp, and 78 hp from the 2017 model year, so check the Mirage page for your car. All three rows in the catalog take the GAN GA+.
The compact MPV: gas and diesel engines
MPV options: a 1.3 (82 hp, 120 Nm), a 1.6 (98 hp, 150 Nm) and a 1.8 (112 hp, 157 Nm). No catalog row exists for the 1.3 at 86 hp and 117 Nm, sold from 1998 to 2000 and again from 2004. In fall 2002 the 1.8 MPI took over from the 1.8 GDI at 122 hp and 174 Nm. The diesel, a common-rail 1.9 DI-D developed with Renault, started at 102 hp and 215 Nm in 2001.
A 116 hp, 265 Nm version followed in October 2002. The GAN GT covers both diesels, and the MPV's gas engines take the GAN GA+. The Space Wagon and the Space Runner are separate models, not Space Star versions.

Space Star 1.2 performance chip: which version is mine?
Go by power: the 80 hp version with 106 Nm ran from 2013 to November 2020, and the 71 hp version with 102 Nm started in September 2020. Both take the GAN GA+.
What does the Space Star 1.9 DI-D gain with the GAN GT?
In the catalog, the 1.9 DI-D at 116 hp and 265 Nm reaches 151 hp and 343 Nm with the GAN GT. Rated gains are up to 30% more power with the GAN GT and up to 12% with the GAN GA+. Those are rated gains for the engine type, not dyno results from your car. Injectors are a known weak spot on this Renault engine.
Is the Space Star 1.8 GDI at 122 hp covered?
Yes, the GAN GA+ covers it. The GDI injects fuel directly, and carbon can build up in the throttle body and the catalytic converter on this engine.
I drive a U.S. Mirage. Is this the right page?
The European Space Star is the Mirage hatchback under another name, so confirm that your engine is the 1.0 at 71 hp or the 1.2 at 71 or 80 hp before you choose.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
