Performance Chip Tuning Mazda
Up to 30% more power for your Mazda
The Mazda catalog lists 203 engines (models: 29, generations: 45). For 19% of the engines, there are the GAN GT (up to 30% more power) and GAN GTL (up to 25%) tuning modules; for the rest, the GAN GA and GAN GA+ (up to 12%). Each engine’s figures are on its own page.
Mazda performance chip: more power, no ECU flash
The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

Mazda tuning FAQ
How much more power does a Mazda gain with GAN, for example the 2.2 SKYACTIV-D 150?
For example, the European 2.2 SKYACTIV-D 150 goes from 150 hp and 380 Nm to 193 hp and 481 Nm with the GAN GT, and the 175 hp version (420 Nm) reaches 205 hp and 528 Nm. Those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your own vehicle. A common U.S. gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 2.5 SKYACTIV-G of the CX-5, is rated at 187 hp; expect a smaller gain than on that diesel and go by the hp figure in the table.
What can a plug-and-play performance chip do for a naturally aspirated Mazda, such as a SKYACTIV-G 2.0 with 120 or 165 hp?
A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G takes the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%, so the gain is smaller than on a turbo. In the catalog, the European 2.0 SKYACTIV-G 165 goes from 165 hp and 210 Nm to 185 hp and 235 Nm, and the 120 hp version to 134 hp and 235 Nm.
Does a GAN performance chip work on an e-SKYACTIV mild-hybrid Mazda?
The European Mazda3 and CX-30 use e-SKYACTIV G and X, 24-volt mild hybrids with a belt-driven starter-generator rather than full hybrids. Look up the Mazda3 page by engine and output. If your engine is listed, the page states a figure for it; if it isn't, there is no figure. The bigger U.S. crossovers use a different e-SKYACTIV-G, a 3.3-liter turbo rated at 280 hp, or 340 hp in the Turbo S, and it has no row in the catalog yet.
GAN plug-in performance chip or a flash tune for a Mazda?
A flash tune replaces the factory software inside the ECU. A plug-in performance chip works differently. The GAN performance chip works between the engine sensors and the ECU, adjusting their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your factory warranty is preserved. The ECU software never changes, and you can remove the module at any time.
Does the GAN module affect my Mazda factory warranty?
No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?
A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Mazda engines: what to know before you tune
Mazda tune: start with the engine under your hood
Shopping for a Mazda3 turbo tune? Pick your engine first, because it decides which GAN performance chip fits. The U.S. lineup today covers the Mazda3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, CX-70, CX-90 and the MX-5 Miata. The Mazda3's 2.5 SKYACTIV-G is naturally aspirated and rated at 191 hp since the 2023 model year, 186 hp before that, so it belongs with the GAN GA+; the table's Mazda3 IV 2.5 row is listed at 186. The 2.5 SKYACTIV-G Turbo, rated at 250 hp on premium fuel, has no row in the catalog yet.
The catalog is European, and U.S. versions are matched by engine code and hp. Its diesel history shows it: the CX-5's diesel share of registrations fell from 65–66% in 2013 and 2014 to 28% in 2018, and the Mazda6 dropped from 57–60% in 2014–2016 to 26% in 2018. By 2020, diesel was down to 3% of Mazda3 registrations, and the Mazda2 stayed between 0–7%.
Mazda engine names, decoded
Some catalog names differ from U.S. badges: the MX5 is the MX-5 Miata, the Atenza is the Mazda6 and the Axela is the Mazda3. Mazda switched engine families in 2012 and 2013, when SKYACTIV-G and SKYACTIV-D took over from the older MZR gasoline and MZR-CD diesel engines. The Mazda6 and CX-5 got the new engines in 2012; the Mazda3 followed in October 2013. European names put the output in hp after SKYACTIV-G or SKYACTIV-D, not the displacement.
Decoded, SKYACTIV-G 100 means a 1.5-liter, SKYACTIV-G 120 and 165 mean 2.0-liter engines, and SKYACTIV-D 150 means a 2.2 diesel. Older MZR-CD badges mean Mazda's own 2.0 and 2.2 common-rail diesels, while MZ-CD is the 1.6 built by Ford and PSA. e-SKYACTIV G and X on the European Mazda3 and CX-30 describe a 24-volt mild hybrid. A belt-driven starter-generator helps the engine, so it is not a full hybrid. In Europe, the Mazda3 diesel (the 1.8 SKYACTIV-D) ended in March 2021, and the Mazda6 was built for the European market until December 2024.

Mazda performance chip: which GAN module fits your engine
Every SKYACTIV-G in the catalog is naturally aspirated. In the catalog, look for SKYACTIV-G 100, 120 and 165 and SKYACTIV-D 105, 150 and 175. Match the performance chip to the engine: most diesels take the GAN GT, rated up to 30% more power, and naturally aspirated gasoline engines take the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%.
The CX-5 shows the pattern: the 2.2 SKYACTIV-D with 150 hp (CX-5, Mazda6, Mazda3) and with 175 hp (CX-5, Mazda6) both run the GAN GT. SKYACTIV-X combines spark-controlled compression ignition with a Roots supercharger. Check the model page for its figures instead of guessing.
Which Mazda models are in the catalog
The catalog lists 29 models from Mazda. The most engines are listed for the 3 (39), 6 (30) and 2 (17). The biggest gain among the models is on the 3: up to +52 hp.
Naturally aspirated Mazda engines
For 153 naturally aspirated engines from Mazda, there’s the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% better fuel economy in ECO mode. It’s plug-and-play: you can install it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
How to find your Mazda engine
Pick your model in the list above, then the generation by model year, and the engine by displacement and horsepower (see your owner’s manual or vehicle documents). The engine page shows the exact gain and the tuner price.
