Mazda BT-50 tune: what changes
The module plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. It never rewrites your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Mazda BT-50 special
Mazda BT-50 tune: the 2.5 MZR-CD diesel
A fully loaded BT-50 leans on the 330 Nm its 2.5 MZR-CD makes at 1,800 rpm. Mazda never sold the BT-50 officially in the U.S., so any BT-50 here is a gray-market import. The European BT-50 runs the 2.5 MZR-CD, a common-rail diesel with 143 hp. Ford's global-market Ranger uses the same engine; the BT-50 is its technical twin, built in Thailand.
For a Mazda BT-50 tune, that comes down to one module: the GAN GT for the 2.5 MZR-CD with 143 hp. Check the exact engine and ECU of your imported truck before you order. Cabs came extended or double, and the fall 2008 facelift left the engine as it was.
Mazda BT-50 tuning FAQ
BT-50 plug-in performance chip or flash tune: what stays untouched?
A flash tune replaces the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU). A plug-in performance chip is a different method. GAN sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they were. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
How much does a diesel performance chip add to the BT-50 2.5 MZR-CD with 143 hp?
The GAN GT takes this diesel from 143 hp and 330 Nm to 185 hp and 421 Nm, a gain of 42 hp. It is a turbo engine, so it takes the module rated at up to 30% more power. Those are rated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your truck.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
