What makes the Daihatsu Copen special
Daihatsu Copen tune: the engine change of 2006
Daihatsu never sold the Copen through U.S. dealers, so every Copen here has Japanese- or European-market specs. Neither engine was a U.S.-market option: the 660cc turbo was built for Japan and sold briefly in Europe as a right-hand-drive car, and the 1.3-liter went to left-hand-drive export markets, Europe among them. From spring 2006, the European Copen switched engines: the right-hand-drive 0.66 turbo gave way to the left-hand-drive 1.3. In Europe, the 0.66 turbo JB-DET was sold from 2004 to the end of 2005 at 68 hp; the catalog’s 64 hp and 110 Nm are the Japanese kei specification.
The 1.3 K3-VE makes 87 hp and 120 Nm. Both engines take the GAN GA+, so each one has a GAN module. The second-generation LA400K has a 658cc KF turbo three-cylinder, and that engine has no row in the catalog yet.

How much power can a Daihatsu Copen performance chip add?
On the 1.3, the module takes output from 87 hp to 97 hp. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power, and that is a rated gain for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Copen tune: is mine the 0.66 turbo or the 1.3?
Look at the engine: the 0.66 turbo sits in the right-hand-drive L880, and the 1.3 in the left-hand-drive L881.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
