What makes the Daihatsu Terios special
Daihatsu Terios tune: the 1.3 or the 1.5
Daihatsu never sold the Terios new in the U.S., so the ones here are used imports. It has no U.S. trims, model years or generations, so go by the engine it left the factory with. Two Terios generations reached Europe, so there are two engines to know: a 1.3 in the first and a 1.5 in the second. On paper, the 1.3 K3-VE makes 86 hp, while the 1.5 3SZ-VE makes 104 hp and 140 Nm.
The European second generation had the 1.5 only, with permanent four-wheel drive, and front-wheel-drive versions followed. Those two figures, 86 hp and 104 hp, are the starting rows for the Terios in the catalog. Neither engine has a turbo, so both take the GAN GA+.
Terios I versus Terios II
The first generation, the J100, reached Europe in 1997 as a compact off-roader with engines derived from the Charade. The 1.3 HC-EJ came first, with four-wheel drive from 1997 to 1999. In 2000 it moved to the 1.3 K3-VE at 86 hp, with four-wheel or two-wheel drive and a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The K3-VE is a 1,297 cc engine with a DOHC head. Japan alone got the Terios Kid with a 0.66 turbo and the 140 hp K3-VET. The catalog carries the Kid engine as the 0.7i at 64 hp and 107 Nm, but not the K3-VET. A chrome grille arrived with the 2000 facelift.
Europe kept selling the second generation, the J200, until 2013 or 2014, and Germany until early 2013. The 3SZ-VE is a 1,495 cc engine with variable valve timing. You still choose between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic. Published figures for the 1.5 range from 102 hp to 105 hp, and the catalog uses 104 hp. Outside Europe, the Toyota Rush is the same second-generation car.

Terios I: which row fits the 1.3?
From 2000, the 1.3 K3-VE is the 86 hp engine. The 1.3 belongs to a Terios I, the 1.5 to a Terios II.
Does a Terios tuner touch the four-wheel drive?
The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so it works on the engine side only. It does not reprogram the transmission.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
