What makes the Honda CR-Z special
Honda CR-Z tune: where the hybrid runs out of pull
On a Honda CR-Z the electric assist fades at about 132 km/h, so at highway speed the gas engine pulls alone. A CR-Z performance chip works on the 1.5 i-VTEC gas engine, which makes 114 hp before the 2013 facelift and 120 hp after it. The combined figures of 124 hp or 137 hp include the electric motor, so they are not a gain.
The 2011 U.S. CR-Z was rated at 122 hp combined, with 113 hp from the gas engine alone, and from 2013 the combined rating rose to 130 hp. Honda no longer sells the CR-Z new in the U.S. In the catalog these engines are listed at 114 hp and 120 hp, and the GAN GA+ adds 14 hp and 17 Nm to each.

Plug-in module or flash tune for a CR-Z?
There are two ways to tune a CR-Z: a flash tune rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU), while the GAN tuning module adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Does the facelift CR-Z have its own row?
Yes. The facelift added a lithium-ion battery and a 120 hp engine, and the catalog lists it separately for the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ adds up to 12% more power, so expect a modest gain on this small engine.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
