What makes the Honda Prelude special
Honda Prelude tune: the H22A VTEC and its outputs
Honda sold the Prelude in the U.S. from 1979 through 2001 and brought it back as a hybrid coupe for 2026. The H-series 2.2 VTEC is the Prelude engine people know best: 185 hp and 212 Nm in the fourth generation, the BB1. The European fifth generation, the BB6 and BB8, arrived in February 1997 and kept 185 hp with 206 Nm in the H22A5 and H22A8. A 200 hp version followed in 1999, and the catalog's 200 hp row is that European version.
The U.S. 1999 to 2001 Prelude 2.2 VTEC is also rated at 200 hp, so compare your car with the 200 hp row. Which GAN performance chip you need depends on the generation and the hp rating in your vehicle documents. They are known as the 4th gen and the 5th gen, with the codes BB1 to BB3 and BB6 to BB9. ATTS torque distribution and the optional 4WS rear steering are chassis features, not part of the engine.
The other Prelude engines
The fourth generation launched in 1992 with a 2.0 at 133 hp and 179 Nm and a 2.3 at 160 hp and 209 Nm. The U.S. fourth-generation Si and the 1995 SE carried a 2.3 rated at 160 hp, so the 2.3 row is the one to check. The BB1's 2.2 VTEC followed in January 1993. The 212 Nm BB1 version of the 2.2 VTEC has no row in the catalog. The fifth generation kept the 2.0 at 133 hp.
With the GAN GA+ the 2.3 reaches 179 hp and 234 Nm, and the 2.0 reaches 149 hp and 200 Nm. The H22A5 and H22A8 were European engines, recognizable by their red valve covers. In Germany the fifth generation was sold until the end of 2000, while production ran until 2002. The 2.0 e:HEV of the sixth generation, the hybrid coupe sold in Europe since January 2026, is not in the catalog. The U.S. 2026 Prelude Hybrid, a two-motor hybrid, has no row in the catalog either.
