About the generation

What makes the Hyundai Getz special

Hyundai Getz tune: before and after September 2005

Before the September 2005 facelift you could buy a Getz with a 1.1 at 62 hp, a 1.3 at 82 or 85 hp, a 1.6 at 105 hp, or the three-cylinder 1.5 CRDi at 82 hp. Hyundai never sold the Getz in the U.S., so its engines here are European-market units. After it, the lineup was a 1.1 at 67 hp, a 1.4 at 97 hp in place of the 1.3, a 1.6 at 106 hp, and a four-cylinder 1.5 CRDi at 88 hp and 215 Nm.

That makes the build date the first thing to settle, because the GAN module has to match the engine in your car. Hyundai built the Getz for Europe as a three-door or five-door hatchback, sold from September 2002 to June 2009.

Gas engines and diesels

All Getz gas engines are naturally aspirated: 1.1 to 1.6 liters, 62 to 106 hp. The CRDi diesels, 82 to 88 hp, have the bigger reserve: the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power, against up to 12% for the GAN GA+ on the gas engines. The catalog assigns the GAN GA and GAN GA+ to the gas engines, and the GAN GT and GAN GTL to the CRDi engines.

At the facelift the 1.6 hardly changed, from 105 hp to 106 hp, and the catalog row says 105 hp and 146 Nm. Fit the GAN GA+ to the 1.4 that replaced the 1.3 and it goes from 97 hp and 125 Nm to 109 hp and 140 Nm.

Getz 1.5 CRDi: 82 hp or 88 hp, which one is yours?

Three cylinders and 82 hp mean you have the engine fitted from August 2003 until the 2005 facelift. Four cylinders, 88 hp and 215 Nm point to a car built after the facelift.

What does a Getz 1.5 CRDi performance chip add?

The 88 hp engine, with 215 Nm from the factory, moves up to 115 hp and 280 Nm once the GAN GT is fitted. On the CRDi engines the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. On the gas engines the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12%. Those are catalog figures for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

What does the GAN GA+ add to the later Getz 1.1?

The later 1.1 goes from 67 hp and 99 Nm to 75 hp and 111 Nm with the GAN GA+.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
