What makes the Jaguar X-Type special
Jaguar X-Type tune: a Ford under the Jaguar badge
Many people assume the X-Type runs Jaguar-only engines. In fact it sits on the Ford Mondeo platform. Its diesels are Ford Duratorq engines, the same family used in the Mondeo and the Transit. Your engine decides which GAN performance chip fits, and there is one for each of them. In the U.S. the X-Type was sold new for the 2002 through 2008 model years with gas V6 engines, not the European diesels.
Production ran from April 2001 to December 2009: the sedan first, and from January 2004 the wagon. Roughly 350,000 X-Types were built, and the November 2007 facelift redid the front end, the rear and the lamps. Every car started with all-wheel drive. Front-wheel-drive base models followed from mid-2002: the 2.0 V6 and the 2.0 D.
Gas V6 and diesel engines
The 2.0 D, listed in the catalog as the 2.0 TD at 131 hp and 330 Nm, was sold from July 2003 to July 2005. From July 2005 to December 2006 the 2.2 D made 155 hp; the 2007 facelift brought a particulate filter and 145 hp. The 145 hp car was also the first X-Type diesel offered with an automatic. Only the 145 hp version has a particulate filter; the 155 hp does not. The gas V6 engines are the 2.0 at 156 hp, the 2.5 at 196 hp and the 3.0 at 231 hp.
The U.S. 2.5 is rated at 192 to 194 hp depending on model year, which is the catalog's 196 hp row. U.S. 3.0 cars are rated between 227 and 231 hp depending on model year, and the catalog has one 3.0 row at 231 hp. The 2.0 V6 is really a 2.1-liter engine, so the catalog lists it as the 2.1i. The 2.1-liter V6 and the diesels are European options, not regular U.S. ones. Both the 2.5 and the 3.0 are all-wheel drive.

How much power does an X-Type performance chip add: the 2.2 D diesel, or the V6 sold in the U.S.?
The 2.2 D climbs from 155 hp and 360 Nm to 200 hp and 457 Nm with the GAN GT. Diesels use the GAN GT: up to 30% more power. Those are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. The U.S. V6 engines are naturally aspirated, so they take the GAN GA+ rather than the GAN GT.
Imported X-Type 2.2 D: 155 hp, or 145 hp with a particulate filter?
Check the year or the filter: 155 hp without a filter was built from 2005 to 2006, 145 hp with a filter from 2007 to 2009. Both take the GAN GT.
Can the U.S.-market X-Type 2.5 V6 and 3.0 V6 be tuned?
Yes. Both take the GAN GA+: the 2.5 is listed at 196 hp and 241 Nm, the 3.0 at 231 hp and 279 Nm. On V6 engines like these, the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power.
Does the X-Type tuner also fit the wagon?
The same figures apply to the wagon wherever the engine matches, so go by the engine, not the body. U.S. Jaguar materials call the wagon the Sportwagon.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
