What makes the Nissan Frontier special
Nissan Frontier tune: the American range
Start with the market: the Frontier is the American name of the pickup that Europe knows as the Navara. Nissan has sold the Frontier in the U.S. since the 1998 model year. To pick a module for a Frontier, work from the U.S. range: the King Cab gas engines of 2.4, 2.5, 3.3 and 4.0 liters. The 4.0 V6 is offered at 261 hp or 265 hp.
Those match the 261 and 265 hp ratings in the U.S. spec sheets for the 4.0-liter VQ40DE. The European Navara has its own page for its diesels: the 2.5 dCi at 174, 171 and 190 hp and the 3.0 dCi V6 at 231 hp. All seven catalog versions take the GAN GA+. The 3.8-liter V6 in the 2020-and-later U.S. Frontier is naturally aspirated and has no row in the catalog yet.

Frontier performance chip or ECU tune: what is the difference?
An ECU tune writes a new program into the control unit. The GAN module acts on the signals on their way to the ECU, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter are never touched. Because it uses the existing connectors, it unplugs again in about a minute.
What does the GAN GA+ add to the Frontier 4.0 V6?
In the catalog, the GAN GA+ takes the 265 hp King Cab to 286 hp. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. Treat that as a stated gain for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your truck.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
