Not sure which engine you have?

The badge alone isn’t enough: in this generation, the same engine came with different horsepower ratings, each with its own calibration. Check the horsepower in your owner’s manual or vehicle documents and find the matching row.

Subaru XV tune: what changes

More power and torque with no ECU flash and no new parts – the module only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Subaru XV special

Subaru XV Crosstrek tune: does a naturally aspirated boxer respond?

Neither the 1.6i nor the 2.0i XV has a turbo, so the first question about a performance chip is whether it makes sense at all. Subaru sold the XV in the U.S. as the XV Crosstrek, and later simply as the Crosstrek. It's a fair question: the gas engines of the European XV were naturally aspirated boxers in both generations.

No one built a turbocharged gas XV, so a turbo kit has no factory version to build on. U.S. engines are naturally aspirated too: the first 2.0-liter was rated at 148 hp, the later one at 152 hp, and a 2.5-liter at 182 hp joined the later cars; the 148 hp engine has its own row below, and the 155 hp row is the nearest to the 152 hp one. Start by finding your exact engine in the catalog.

Catalog XV engines: 1.6i or 2.0i, first or second generation

The first generation, the GP, started in March 2012 and ran until January 2018. January 2016 brought the facelift. Built on the Impreza, every first-generation XV engine is a four-cylinder boxer with start-stop. Both the 1.6i (114 hp, 150 Nm) and the 2.0i (150 hp, 196 Nm) come with Symmetrical all-wheel drive. Second-generation production ran from January 2018 until October 2023, and there is no diesel.

It debuted at the 2017 Geneva show. The second-generation 2.0i makes 156 hp with direct injection, and all versions use the Lineartronic CVT with all-wheel drive. Two more 2.0i rows in the catalog: 148 hp and 155 hp, both with 196 Nm. A 2.0D diesel with 147 hp and 350 Nm was offered on the first generation, and the second generation added the 2.0 e-Boxer hybrid, whose gas engine makes 150 hp and 194 Nm.

FAQ

Subaru XV tuning FAQ

Which XV 2.0i do you have, 150 hp or 156 hp?

It depends on the generation: the first has 150 hp, and the second, built from 2018, has 156 hp, listed as 155 hp in the catalog. The GAN GA+ takes the 150 hp engine from 150 hp and 196 Nm to 168 hp and 220 Nm. Expect up to 12% more power from the GAN GA+ on naturally aspirated engines. Those are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Can an XV performance chip add boost?

No turbocharged gas XV exists, so there is no factory boost to raise. The 1.6i at 114 hp and every 2.0i take the GAN GA+. On a naturally aspirated XV, expect better pull for daily driving rather than turbo-like gains.

Are the XV 2.0D and the e-Boxer covered?

No. The 2.0D diesel and the 2.0 e-Boxer hybrid have no rows in the catalog.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
