Each engine gets its own performance chip: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per performance chip and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone isn’t enough: in this generation, the same engine came with different horsepower ratings, each with its own calibration. Check the horsepower in your owner’s manual or vehicle documents and find the matching row.
Same badge, different factory power outputs in this generation:
Volkswagen Beetle tune: what changes
The module plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. It never rewrites your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Volkswagen Beetle special
VW Beetle tune: New Beetle or Beetle?
Two Beetles share this page: the New Beetle (9C) from 1998 to 2010, and the Beetle A5 from 2011 to 2019. Volkswagen sold the Beetle new in the U.S. as a coupe and a convertible through the 2019 model year. The air-cooled classic, the VW bug, isn't in the catalog. The catalog puts both newer cars on one Beetle page, so the engine is how you tell them apart.
Both have engines a performance chip can use. As an example, the 220 hp Beetle 2.0 TSI reaches 264 hp and 435 Nm with the GAN GT. That is a rating for the engine type, not a dyno result from your own car. By hp, four U.S. engines have a catalog row: the 2.5 five-cylinder at 170 hp, the 1.8T at 170 hp, the 2.0 TSI at 200 hp and the 2.0 TDI at 140 hp (150 hp for 2015). The 2.0 TSI of the last Beetles is rated at 174 hp, and that engine has no row in the catalog yet.
Beetle A5 engines from 2011
The A5 was unveiled in April 2011 and built until July 2019; European sales ended in March 2018. The 2.0 TSI started at 200 hp until May 2013, then made 210 hp until November 2014 and 220 hp after that; the 2013 GSR special edition also makes 210 hp. Europe's 1.2 TSI is rated at 105 hp and 175 Nm.
The European 1.4 TSI, at 150 hp and 250 Nm, came in October 2014. On the diesel side there is the 1.6 TDI at 105 hp, a 110 hp diesel from November 2014, and the 2.0 TDI, first at 140 hp and later at 150 hp. For a Beetle diesel, the build date is where tuning starts.
New Beetle: gas engines
It sits on the Golf IV platform, and the engines listed for the New Beetle here are all gas. Gas engines: the 1.4 (75 hp), the 1.6 (102 hp), the 2.0 (116 hp) and the 2.3 V5 (170 hp). The catalog shows the 2.0 at 115 hp.
The New Beetle's 1.8T at 150 hp has no separate row; look for the same engine as the 1.8T of the VW Golf IV. Its 1.9 TDI at 101 or 105 hp sits on the VW New Beetle (9C) page.
Volkswagen Beetle tuning FAQ
2.0T Beetle: how do I tell the 200, 210 and 220 hp versions apart?
Check the year: June 2011 means 200 hp, May 2013 means 210 hp, and November 2014 means 220 hp. The GAN GT fits all three 2.0 TSI versions and is rated at up to 30% more power for turbo engines.
Beetle 2.0 TDI tune: 140 or 150 hp, and what about the 1.6 TDI?
From February 2012 to October 2014 the 2.0 TDI made 140 hp, then 150 hp; the 1.6 TDI made 105 hp from August 2011 to October 2014. The GAN GT fits each of these engines.
New Beetle performance chip: what does the GAN GA+ do for the 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3 V5?
The GAN GA+ works with all four, rated at up to 12% more power. It is also rated at up to 15% better fuel economy in steady driving.
Beetle: GAN module or flash tune?
A flash tuner rewrites the factory software. A plug-and-play performance chip like the GAN module instead sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. Because the ECU software is never changed, your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can come off at any time. It comes off in about a minute and leaves no electronic or mechanical traces.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
