What makes the Audi A6 C8 special
Audi A6 C8 tune: the badge number is not the engine size in liters
The A6 C8 is sold in the U.S. as a sedan with 45 TFSI and 55 TFSI badges. On the Audi A6 C8 (Typ 4A) the badge number is a power class, not the displacement, so reading it right is step one of any tuning plan. Among the European diesel badges, a 40 TDI is a 2.0 with 204 hp, a 45 TDI is a 3.0 V6 with 231 hp, and a 50 TDI is a 3.0 V6 with 286 hp. The 45 TDI is rated at 245 hp from 2020. That 245 hp 45 TDI has no row in the catalog. The 45 TFSI is a 2.0 that made 245 hp until 2020 and 265 hp after it.
The U.S. 45 TFSI is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 248 hp for 2019–2020 and 261 hp from 2021; the catalog's 45 TFSI row lists 245, a metric figure, so go by the badge and model year rather than the hp number. The 265 hp 45 TFSI has no row of its own under the A6 C8; the same engine sits in the catalog as the 45 TFSI 265 hp of the facelifted Audi A4 B9. The 55 TFSI is a 3.0 V6 with 340 hp and one twin-scroll turbocharger. In the U.S. that V6 also carries a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The European 55 TFSI e is a plug-in hybrid whose 367 hp is the combined output of a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor.
Gas engines and what to check first
For an Audi A6 45 TFSI performance chip, the GAN GT takes the engine from 245 hp to 287 hp, and the 55 TFSI goes from 340 hp to 398 hp. High-mileage European A6 C8 diesels need a check first: injector and dual-mass flywheel faults are possible, and a damaged chain drive on the V6 TDI is especially costly. Go through the service history and run a diagnosis before you add power.

Audi A6 C8: what does a GAN GT add to each European diesel?
The 35 TDI goes from 163 hp to 197 hp, the 40 TDI from 204 hp to 247 hp and the 45 TDI from 231 hp to 270 hp. The 50 TDI goes from 286 hp to 335 hp. The U.S. A6 has no diesel badge at all; American cars are the 45 TFSI and 55 TFSI. These are rated gains for each engine type, not dyno readings from your car.
A6 C8 55 TFSI e: which hp figure does the module work with?
The 367 hp is the system output of a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor. With the GAN GT, system output goes from 367 hp to 429 hp.
Audi A6 C8: GAN module or flash tune?
A flash tune changes the factory software in the ECU. A GAN performance chip doesn't, because it only adjusts the sensor signals and the flash counter stays untouched. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
