What makes the Ford Focus II special
Ford Focus tune, second generation: U.S. cars and the European Mk2
The U.S. Focus of model years 2005 through 2011 was a different car from the European Mk2: an updated first-generation Focus through 2007, then a North American redesign from 2008. U.S. trims were S, SE, SES and SEL, plus the ZX4 ST, with a coupe added from 2008. Tuning here means more engine power, not body kits or styling parts. The European Mk2 arrived in 2004, and the Mk2.5 facelift with the Kinetic Design followed in 2008. The TDCi diesels are European-market engines, and all of them take the GAN GT: the 1.6 TDCi with 90 and 109 hp, the 1.8 TDCi with 116 hp and the 2.0 TDCi with 110 and 136 hp.
The 1.4 Duratec with 80 hp, the 1.6 with 100 and 115 hp, the 1.8 with 125 hp and the 2.0 with 145 hp are naturally aspirated, so they take the GAN GA+. The U.S. Focus of 2008 through 2011 carries a naturally aspirated 2.0 Duratec rated at 140 hp, and the nearest row on this page is the 2.0 Duratec at 145 hp. The 2005 through 2007 ZX4 ST is naturally aspirated too, at 151 hp, so it is not a turbo ST like the European one. At the top of the European range sit the turbo five-cylinders: the ST with 226 hp, the RS with 305 hp from January 2009 and the RS500 with 350 hp, limited to 500 cars in May 2010. Ghia, Zetec and Titanium are trim levels; on any Focus the engine decides the performance chip.

Imported Focus 1.6 TDCi 109: what does the GAN GT add?
For the 1.6 TDCi with 109 hp the catalog shows 142 hp with the GAN GT, up from 109 hp. The 1.6 TDCi with 90 hp has its own row. Those are the rated figures for this engine type, not a dyno result from your car.
Focus ST: Mountune dealer kit or plug-in performance chip?
On the European ST, a 2008 Ford and Mountune dealer kit added a larger intercooler, an air filter and a recalibration, giving 260 hp at 5,500 rpm and 400 Nm at 2,500 rpm instead of 226 hp and 320 Nm. A GAN performance chip adjusts sensor signals and fits no such parts, and in the catalog both the ST and the RS take the GAN GT.
Does a Focus with a Duratec gas engine get a performance chip?
Yes. The 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 Duratec are covered by the GAN GA+, which adds up to 12% more power.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
