Land Rover Defender tune: what changes
The module plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. It never rewrites your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Land Rover Defender special
Land Rover Defender tune: the Td5 and the 2.4
Land Rover sold the classic Defender new in the U.S. only for the 1993 to 1997 model years, as V8 models, so a diesel classic here is an import under the 25-year rule. This page covers the classic L316 Defender in its 90, 110 and 130 versions, built until 2016. A Defender performance chip comes down to two engines: the Td5 at 122 hp, and the Ford 2.4 diesel at 122 hp from 2007 to 2011. The GAN GA+ takes the Td5 from 122 hp to 137 hp, and the GAN GT takes the 2.4 to 159 hp.
Those are the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno result from your vehicle. From 2012 to 2016 the Defender carried a 2.2 diesel with the same output as the 2.4. The 2.2 Puma diesel has no row in the catalog yet. Classic Defenders that reach U.S. buyers as diesels are imports, such as the 2.5 TDi.
Land Rover Defender tuning FAQ
Is the current U.S. Defender, 2020 and newer, in the catalog?
The L663's D200, D250 and D300 diesels and its P400 gas engine are not in the catalog. The P300 has no Defender row either; the same engine is listed as the 2.0 T of the Jaguar F-Pace. The V8 versions, the P500, P525 and P635, have no rows in the catalog yet.
Land Rover Defender performance chip or flash tuner?
Unlike a flash tuner, the GAN performance chip doesn't write anything to the ECU: it adjusts the sensor signals and comes off in about a minute. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and you can remove the module at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
