What makes the Land Rover Freelander II special
Land Rover LR2 tune: the U.S. car is a Freelander 2, and the diesels are European
Land Rover sold the second-generation Freelander in the U.S. as the LR2, for model years 2008 through 2015. U.S. cars carry the LR2 badge, not Freelander, so match yours by engine and hp. The U.S. lineup was the 3.2-liter six, replaced by the 2.0-liter turbo four, so the diesel rows below are European. On the European Freelander 2, the build date decides the diesel: it changed in July 2010. On early cars the 2.2 TD4 is a 160 hp, 400 Nm engine, and the GAN GT lifts it to 206 hp and 508 Nm.
Later cars carry the 2.2 TD4 at 150 hp and 420 Nm, and the same GAN GT delivers 193 hp and 525 Nm. The 2.2 SD4, at 190 hp and 420 Nm, reaches 244 hp and 528 Nm with the performance chip. The 150 hp and 190 hp versions are the same 2.2 diesel, tuned for different boost. Those are rated gains for each engine type, not a dyno result from your car.
Gas engines and the November 2012 change
Volvo supplied the 3.2 i6, a naturally aspirated six rated at 233 hp and 317 Nm; it was built until November 2012. The U.S. LR2 3.2 is rated at 230 hp for 2008 through 2012, near the 233 hp row. The GAN GA+ lifts it to 261 hp and 355 Nm, which is up to 12% more power.
In November 2012 the turbocharged 2.0 Si4 (241 hp, 340 Nm) replaced it; the GAN GT brings it to 306 hp, up 65 hp. The U.S. 2.0 turbo, sold for 2013 through 2015, is rated at 240 hp, near the 241 hp Si4 row. The gas figures are rated gains too, not a dyno result from your car.

European Freelander 2 2.2 TD4: is my engine the 160 hp or the 150 hp version?
Cars built before July 2010 have 160 hp and 400 Nm; later cars have 150 hp and 420 Nm. A few sources quote 152 hp for the early engine, but the catalog says 160 hp.
LR2 or Freelander 2 SD4: flash tune or GAN performance chip?
A GAN performance chip doesn't flash the ECU: it works on the sensor signals, so the checksums and flash counter of the factory software stay untouched. Your factory warranty is preserved: the factory ECU software is never changed, and the module comes off at any time.
Does the Freelander 2 2.2 diesel run a timing belt or a chain?
It runs a timing belt, not a chain, and a snapped belt does severe damage to the engine.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
