What makes the Opel Astra J special
Astra J and Buick Verano tune: six engines behind one “1.6”
Opel never sold the Astra J as an Opel in the U.S.; its close North American relative is the Buick Verano, sold for model years 2012 through 2017. The Verano Turbo was the performance version, and the catalog lists the Verano on its own pages, so check those for U.S. engines. Which 1.6 does your imported Astra J have? Pick the tuner by engine code, not by the number on the badge. A 1.6 badge could mean any one of six engines. The A16XER with 115 hp has no turbocharger and runs a timing belt, so its performance chip is the GAN GA+.
The turbo gas engines are the A16LET with 179 hp, built until November 2012, the A16XHT with 170 hp and the A16SHT with 200 hp. The 1.6 SIDI Turbo has direct injection, and its 200 hp version belongs to the three-door GTC. The 1.6 CDTI is a turbodiesel with 110 and 136 hp, available from May 2014. These turbo gas engines and the 1.6 CDTI all take the GAN GT. So do the older 1.7 CDTI with 110, 125 and 131 hp and the 1.4 Turbo with 120 and 140 hp.
Bodies and facelift of the European Astra J
The five-door hatchback launched first, with sales starting on December 4, 2009. The Sports Tourer wagon followed in November 2010 and the three-door GTC in January 2012. The sedan came in September 2012, together with the facelift.

Astra GTC 1.6 SIDI Turbo, 200 hp: what does a GAN performance chip give?
The catalog starts this engine at 200 hp and 280 Nm and ends at 256 hp and 365 Nm with the GAN GT. On turbocharged engines the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. The OPC runs the 2.0 Turbo with 280 hp, and the catalog gain with the GAN GT is 48 hp. Those are the rated figures for this engine type, not a dyno result from your car.
Which GAN performance chip fits the Astra J 1.6 with 115 hp?
The A16XER with 115 hp and 155 Nm reaches 129 hp and 174 Nm with the GAN GA+.
Is my Astra J 1.6 CDTI the 110 hp or the 136 hp version?
The 110 hp version makes 300 Nm, and the 136 hp version makes 320 Nm. In the catalog, the GAN GT adds 33 hp to the 110 hp version and 40 hp to the 136 hp version.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
