Pontiac G6 tune: what changes

More power and torque with no ECU flash and no new parts – the module only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Pontiac G6 special

Pontiac G6 tune: an American sedan on a shared GM platform

Pontiac built the G6 in Lake Orion, Michigan, for North America, and Europe never got it. It rides on the Epsilon platform shared with the Opel Vectra and the Saab 9-3, its European cousins. The engines are all American, so match the performance chip to the one in your car.

The sedan was built from 2005 to 2010, and the coupe and the folding hardtop convertible from 2006 to 2009, all with front-wheel drive. Trim names like GTP and GXP don't pick the module. The engine does.

G6 engines: find the one under your hood

The 2.4 DOHC four-cylinder debuted for 2006. Catalog row: 171 hp and 220 Nm. It came with a four-speed automatic, then a six-speed from 2009. For 2005 and 2006 the pushrod 3.5 V6 made around 200 hp. The catalog row says 205 hp and 300 Nm. Variable valve timing and a bit more power came to the 3.5 in 2007. Fitted from 2006 to 2008, the 3.9 V6 makes 243 hp with the manual and less with the automatic.

Only this engine could be ordered with the six-speed manual. The 3.6 DOHC V6 debuted in the GTP in 2007 and in the GXP after that. Its catalog row shows 255 hp and 340 Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic. The 3.5 and the 3.9 are the older GM pushrod V6s; the 3.6 is a DOHC engine with variable valve timing. Every G6 engine in the catalog takes the GAN GA+.

FAQ

Pontiac G6 tuning FAQ

How much does a tune add to the G6 3.6 V6?

On the 255 hp engine the GAN GA+ gets you to 275 hp and 367 Nm. Stated gains, not a dyno reading of your car: the GAN GA+ line is rated at up to 12% more power on this kind of engine.

Is there a Pontiac G6 performance chip for the 2.4 four-cylinder?

Yes. The 2.4 with 171 hp and 220 Nm takes the GAN GA+.

Does a G6 performance chip replace the ECU?

No. The GAN module works between the engine sensors and the ECU, adjusting their signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter are never touched. It uses the existing connectors and comes off in about a minute.

Can I use a module listed for another car on the same platform?

No. The platform may be shared, but choose the module from the G6 engine list above.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
