Volkswagen Transporter T4 tune: what changes
More power and torque with no ECU flash and no new parts – the module only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Volkswagen Transporter T4 special
VW T4 EuroVan tuner: the 2.5 TDI behind the camper
In the U.S. the T4 was sold as the Volkswagen EuroVan, mostly as a passenger van and camper. The 2.5 TDI engines in this catalog weren't part of that U.S. factory lineup, so the two rows below are for imported T4s. The U.S. EuroVan's late 24-valve VR6 is rated at 201 hp, and its row is the 2.8i at 204 hp on the VW Multivan page. VW built the T4 (Typ 7D) from September 1990 to June 2003, and the catalog section 2000–03 covers only the last stretch of that run. Europe got it as the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and the Westfalia-built California camper, and the camper is the version most people know now. Short-nose cars are the T4a; from 1996 the Caravelle, Multivan and California switched to the long nose (T4b), and the van kept the short one. For a VW T4 tune, the catalog has two versions, both of them the five-cylinder 2.5 TDI.
The 88 hp version has no intercooler; the other makes 102 hp. Both are turbodiesels and take the GAN GA+. The catalog doesn't include the 2.5 TDI at 151 hp, the 2.0 and 2.5 gas engines or the 2.8 VR6 at 140 hp. Buyers could get the 151 hp version only in the long-nose Caravelle and Multivan. Code AXL, built from 2001, is the 102 hp engine: a detuned take on that 151 hp unit, made for the Syncro. You'll find the 2.8 VR6 at 204 hp on the VW Multivan page.
Volkswagen Transporter T4 tuning FAQ
What does a T4 2.5 TDI 88 performance chip add?
The 88 hp version with 195 Nm reaches 99 hp and 218 Nm with the GAN GA+.
What does the GAN GA+ add to the 102 hp VW T4 2.5 TDI?
With the GAN GA+, the 2.5 TDI at 102 hp and 250 Nm reaches 114 hp and 280 Nm. It's rated at up to 12% more power, and those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your car.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
