Chevrolet Silverado tune: engines and generations
Chevrolet Silverado tune: the Duramax 6.6 comes first on HD trucks
On the HD 2500 and 3500, the Duramax 6.6 V8 diesel is the engine to look up before you choose a GAN performance chip. U.S. dealers sell the light-duty truck as the Silverado 1500 and the heavy-duty trucks as the 2500HD and 3500HD. Three versions matter: the LBZ (2006 and 2007), the LMM (2007 to 2010) and the LML (2011 to 2016).
These are American trucks that Europe never got, so the hp and Nm below are catalog values, not the SAE ratings on a U.S. spec sheet. Catalog figures: the LBZ at 367 hp and 881 Nm, the LMM at 370 hp and 895 Nm, and the LML at 402 hp and 1,037 Nm. Diesel torque is what tows and hauls, and all three engines take the GAN GT.
Silverado 1500: V6 and V8 gas engines
The 1500 has been through four generations: GMT800 (1999–2007), GMT900 (2007–2013), K2XX (2014–2018) and T1XX from 2019. Engines run from the 4.3 V6 up through the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 V8. Outside the U.S., HSV has sold a right-hand-drive conversion of the 6.2 V8 in Oceania since 2018–2020. Catalog rows: the 4.3 at 195 and 285 hp, and the 4.8 at 295 and 302 hp. Next come the 5.3 at 315 and 355 hp, the 6.0 at 353 and 367 hp and the 6.2 at 403 and 420 hp. A current truck’s 5.3 EcoTec3 is rated at 355 hp and its 6.2 EcoTec3 at 420 hp, and both have catalog rows.
The 6.6 gas V8 in the HD trucks is rated at 401 hp and has no catalog row yet. The 3.0 Duramax inline-six diesel in the 1500 has no row yet either. All of these gas engines take the GAN GA+. The GMC Sierra is the Silverado’s twin. Match the engine and its hp: one engine name can cover several outputs, so find yours in the table by hp.

How much does a Silverado Duramax tune gain with the GAN GT on the LML?
The catalog shows the LML going from 402 hp and 1,037 Nm to 470 hp and 1,213 Nm with the GAN GT. Those are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno result for your truck. GAN rates the GAN GT at up to 30% more power.
How much can a Silverado 1500 with the 5.3, 6.0 or 6.2 V8 gain?
These engines take the GAN GA+, which GAN rates at up to 12% more power. GAN also quotes up to 15% lower fuel consumption with an economical driving style, so gas mileage gains come from easy, steady driving.
Silverado plug-in module or flash tuner: what stays untouched?
A flash tuner rewrites the software in the ECU. The GAN module works differently: the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they are, and nothing is written to the ECU. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU flash tune without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
