GAN tuning module for Porsche

Porsche performance chip: more power, no ECU flash

The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

What owners say

What Porsche owners say about GAN

★★★★★

Simple and convenient. Satisfied with result. I connected this device via the attached cable and hid it behind the pile floor covering. Up to 100 km, I notices the result: the throttle response at 1,2,3 gear is better, the fuel consumption did not change (I use the “Dynamic” mode). I think the result is good for such…

FAQ

Porsche tuning FAQ

991.1 or 991.2 Carrera: which GAN performance chip fits a 911?

A naturally aspirated 991.1 (Carrera, Carrera S or Carrera GTS) takes the GAN GA+. The 991.2 Carrera is a 3.0 twin-turbo, and the 991.2 has no row in the catalog.

How much does the GAN GA+ add to a naturally aspirated Boxster or Cayman?

For the 986, 987 and 981 flat-sixes, expect up to 12% more power from the GAN GA+. Take the 981 Boxster 2.7: stock it makes 265 hp and 280 Nm, and the catalog shows 286 hp and 302 Nm with the GAN GA+. These are stated gains for the engine type, not what a dyno would show on your own car.

What does the GAN GT add to the 718 Boxster and Cayman with the 2.0 and 2.5 turbo?

The turbocharged four-cylinders, the 2.0 at 300 hp and the 2.5 at 350 hp, both take the GAN GT. The 4.0 flat-six that came later is naturally aspirated, so it takes the GAN GA+.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tune for a Porsche?

A flash tune rewrites the factory software. The GAN tuning module doesn't: it works between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. Checksums, flash counter and factory software stay untouched, and the engine keeps its factory protections. Your factory warranty is preserved. The ECU software never changes, and you can remove the module at any time.

Does the GAN module affect my Porsche factory warranty?

No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?

A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.

About Porsche engines

Porsche engines: what to know before you tune

Porsche tune: a turbo without the badge

Don't go by the badge when you shop for a Porsche tune. A car without Turbo on the trunk can still be turbocharged. The word Turbo does mean a turbocharged engine. But the Carrera, Carrera S and Carrera GTS of the 997 and 991.1 are all naturally aspirated. Then the 991.2 Carrera changed the rules with a 3.0 twin-turbo and no Turbo badge.

The 2020 to 2024 911 Carrera sold here with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six is rated at 379 hp, and that engine has no row in the catalog yet. So one model name can mean two different performance chips. Your engine decides which one fits. As a rule, turbo engines take the GAN GT, rated up to 30% more power, and naturally aspirated engines take the GAN GA+, rated up to 12%.

718: the Boxster and Cayman go to four cylinders

The Boxster and Cayman were sold as the 718 from 2016 to 2025, with the internal code 982. Turbocharged four-cylinders replaced the naturally aspirated flat-sixes of the 986, 987 and 981: a 2.0 with 300 hp and a 2.5 with 350 hp. A naturally aspirated 4.0 flat-six with 400 to 500 hp came back later. Catalog check: the 718 Boxster 2.0 (300 hp), the 718 Boxster 2.5 (350 hp) and the 718 Cayman 2.0 (300 hp) all fit the GAN GT.

Flat-sixes and the 911

Boxsters with the flat-six of the 986, 987 and 981 (204 to 375 hp) go with the GAN GA+. The same goes for the Cayman 3.4 S at 295, 320 and 325 hp, and the Cayman GTS at 340 hp. Also GA+: the 997 Carrera 4S (355 and 385 hp), the 997 Carrera GTS (408 hp) and the 991 Carrera S (400 hp).

The 2022 to 2024 911 GT3's naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six is rated at 502 hp here; the catalog's 911 GT3 4.0i row at 500 is the earlier 991-generation engine in metric figures, so this one has no row yet. The gasoline Macan GTS has a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 434 hp, and it has no row in the catalog yet.

What the letters mean on a Porsche

Think of S as the stronger version, with GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) a step above it. RS, short for RennSport, is a road version that comes from a race car. Carrera is the 911's historic main line, named after the Carrera Panamericana race. A 4 in Carrera 4, 4S or Targa 4 means four-wheel drive. The Targa, named after the Targa Florio race, is an open 911 with a roll bar.

U.S. trims run from Base, T, S and GTS to Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 and GT3 RS, plus Carrera 4S, Targa and Spyder. 986, 987, 981 and 982 are Porsche's internal type codes. To identify your car, you need the model name (911, Cayenne, Macan, Boxster or Cayman) and the body code, such as 997, 991 or 981.

Which Porsche models are in the catalog

The catalog lists 8 models from Porsche. The most engines are listed for the Cayenne (31), Boxster (26) and Panamera (15). The biggest gain among the models is on the Cayenne: up to +102 hp.

Naturally aspirated Porsche engines

For 67 naturally aspirated engines from Porsche, there’s the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% better fuel economy in ECO mode. It’s plug-and-play: you can install it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
