Performance Chip Tuning Jeep
Up to 30% more power for your Jeep
The Jeep catalog lists 103 engines (models: 9, generations: 17). For 35% of the engines, there are the GAN GT (up to 30% more power) and GAN GTL (up to 25%) tuning modules; for 67 naturally aspirated engines, the GAN GA and GAN GA+ (up to 12%). Each engine’s figures are on its own page.
Jeep performance chip: more power, no ECU flash
The GAN module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Unlike a flash tuner, it doesn’t rewrite your ECU software: your factory warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.

What Jeep owners say about GAN
The installation took about 15 minutes, it really works, although I really did not believe in it. The car runs much softer in different modes and revs on the highway was lower than usual and I suppose the fuel consumption is also less, but at this moment I have no measurements. I am very glad with this purchase. I…
Jeep tuning FAQ
How much more power does the Grand Cherokee WK2 3.0 V6 diesel get from the GAN GT?
Take the 250 hp version: 570 Nm stock, then 317 hp and 700 Nm with the GAN GT. The 241 hp version gains 65 hp and 111 Nm. Those are the catalog gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your truck.
Jeep Wrangler tuner: which GAN module fits the JK and the JL?
The JK's 2.8 CRD is a European diesel in two ratings, and both take the GAN GT: 177 hp adds 50 hp and 107 Nm, 200 hp adds 56 hp and 114 Nm. On the JL, the 2.0 turbo (270 hp in the catalog) takes the GAN GT for +30 hp and +60 Nm (+44 lb-ft). The 3.6 V6 Pentastar takes the GAN GA+.
Compass or Renegade tuner: what do the turbo engines gain?
Start with the 1.4 MultiAir turbo: the 140 hp version adds 41 hp and 69 Nm, and the 170 hp version adds 48 hp and 75 Nm. For comparison, the European 2.0 MultiJet diesel gains 41 hp and 95 Nm at 140 hp, and 48 hp and 97 Nm at 170 hp. The Renegade's 2.4 Tigershark is a naturally aspirated gas engine, so it takes the GAN GA+ rather than the GT.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tune on a Jeep diesel?
A flash tune rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU). The GAN performance chip works between the sensors and the ECU, adjusting their signals. Factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they were. Your factory warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and you can take the module off at any time.
Does the GAN module affect my Jeep factory warranty?
No. The module doesn’t change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your factory warranty is preserved. On top of that, GAN gives its own engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Plug-in performance chip or flash tuner: which should I choose?
A flash tuner rewrites the maps in your ECU, and the flash counter records it. The GAN module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Jeep engines: what to know before you tune
Jeep tuner: which engine is really under your hood
A loaded Grand Cherokee needs torque to hold a long grade, and its 3.0 V6 CRD diesel brings 550 to 570 Nm (406 to 420 lb-ft). A performance chip for this engine starts right there. In the U.S. the same 3.0 V6 diesel is badged EcoDiesel; Europe sold it as the 3.0 CRD or MultiJet. VM Motori builds it. Output was 190 hp until 2013, 241 hp until 2017 and 250 hp after that. Jeep's European diesels come from other makers. VM Motori supplies the 2.5 and 2.8 CRD for the Cherokee KJ and KK and the Wrangler JK.
Mercedes supplies the 2.7 and 3.0 CRD: the Grand Cherokee WJ (from 2002), the WH and the Commander. The WJ's 2.7 CRD made 163 hp until 2004. The WH and Commander 3.0 CRD makes 218 hp and 510 Nm. In Europe, Fiat's MultiJet in 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2 liters powers the Renegade, Compass, Cherokee KL and Wrangler JL. The Renegade came in 2014 and the Compass II in July 2017. The first Compass ran a Volkswagen 2.0 CRD, later a Mercedes 2.2 CRD. Jeep is a home-market brand in the U.S., where the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are current and the Commander, Patriot and Liberty were sold in earlier model years.
Pentastar, Hemi and the 2.0 turbo: the gas Jeeps
In January 2012 the Wrangler JK traded its 3.8 V6 for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The outgoing 3.8 V6 made 196 to 199 hp and stayed in the JK through 2011. The Pentastar V6 is rated at 285 hp in the Wrangler, so find your engine by its hp figure in the table. The Cherokee KL's 3.2 V6 puts out 272 hp. Hemi is Chrysler's V8. The 5.7 (326 to 360 hp) goes into the Grand Cherokee WH and WK2 and the Commander; the SRT gets the 6.4 at 468 hp.
Since August 2018 the Wrangler JL has offered a 2.0 turbo at 270 hp, paired with the eTorque mild hybrid system. Europe's JL diesel was the 2.2 MultiJet (200 hp, 450 Nm), sold from August 2018 to December 2020. The U.S. Wrangler got the 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 instead, rated at 260 hp. Trim names such as Sport, Limited, Trailhawk and Rubicon don't tell you the engine, so ignore them when you look yours up.
